SCAD graduate Amelia Kai Roberts has brought her many skills as cook, cake and pastry chef, textiles master, visual artist, latte artist and budding accordionist (just to name a few) to Chapel Hill, NC from her original home in Nantucket. And boy, are we lucky! You can visit Amelia here for her blog or stop by Caffe Driade and have her warm you up with a cappuccino.

Conical Canopy
Did your mother hold you like her body told her?
She saw those rays of light burning you
and let those clouds take turns shading your bony back.
She let years fall off her face and she didn’t get on the plane.
She found danger in rust and mold.
She threw things away.
They hadn’t invented car seats yet, but on bikes she always rode in the back
and she watched your brakes give out for the first time,
the gravel catching and rocking and cradling you.
Years later, she let you swim in the ocean at night.
She left doors unlocked,
She ignored the creaks in the hardwood that couldn’t be you.
These, her arms, stretched and freckled, too strong for her fragile frame
Holding a small world in front of you, letting you take your time
Today she’s going skydiving, all those years in ropes and nylon
Tumbling down like faith, suspended

From our friends Dan, Randy and Justin at the think-tank that is I’m Leaving You: “Welcome. Before you leave in disgust, let us attempt to explain ourselves. I’m Leaving You is an online sketch comedy project incorporating aspects of absurdism, surrealism, and literary nonsense, among other lesser known things, and it’s not for everyone.”
